I'm using Photoshop 7.0 lol XD It's old but good.

I have painter IX but I never learned how to use it so when I installed it I was so confused. :C

Well you certainly don't NEED a reference, if you are able to visualize the human body or have a method (like drawing the figure as a stick man then fleshing it out and such) but I personally like using references. Cause I suck at visualizing lol.

Well it depends on what part of photoshop you need to learn. If you just need to learn the basics I'm sure there's one out on the internet. The adobe homesite usually has that sort of thing. :)
